We’ve come to the end of yet another wonderful fencing year. We wish everyone a good time during the Christmas holidays with family, friends and of course a lot of fun. Between 24 December and 8 January there are no training sessions, we would like to see everyone again starting 9 January.

The board of En Garde

New class times from January 2023

At the request of several parents and the maîtres, it has been decided in consultation with the board to change the times of the training sessions from January 9, 2023.

For the training sessions in Veldhoven, the group aged 8-12 will from now on receive lessons from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, so half an hour shorter. The group of 12-15 years trains from 7 pm – 8.30 pm. Since there is no room for fencing with multiple groups at the same time, the 15-plus and senior groups train from 8:30 pm to 10:00 pm. We are aware that the end time is a bit late, but we will experiment to see if this will work.

For the training sessions on Thursday, the time for the group of 8-12 years is also reduced to 1 hour. The training sessions in Eindhoven start at 6.30 pm and last until 7.30 pm. The group of 12-15 years starts half an hour earlier at 6.30 pm, this training lasts until 8 pm. Due to the same starting times of these two groups, the maîtres can also easily switch groups. A few older people from the group 8-12 may also be able to participate in the group 12-15 for half an hour and thus prepare for the transition.

The training times for 15-plus and seniors remain the same: from 8 pm to 9.30 pm. For this training, efforts are now being made to provide structural instruction again.

We think that this way we can introduce more structure into the training and respond to the need for less stress for the group of 8-12 years. We will certainly evaluate these changes in the meantime.

We would like to ask all members to be alert to the other times.

First results member survey explained

Chantal Nahr recently discussed the first results of the member survey with the board and the maîtres.

A few points in a row (the list is not exhaustive):

  • In general, the members are positive about the association.
  • There is a need for more social activities (BBQ, youth outings) and more screens together to get more bonding,
  • The seniors clearly lack structure in the lessons on Thursday, the trainer is also often absent.
  • Fortunately, quite a few members are willing to help the club with various activities.
  • Valuable tips have been received to recruit new members.
  • We will return to these outcomes in more detail at a later date, including concrete follow-up actions and who can support and organize what.

We would like to thank Chantal very much for the survey and she will also support us in the follow-up actions.
Tournaments 2023

Fortunately, after corona we can screen plenty of competitions again. We ask you to pay special attention to our own club tournament on Thursday 26 January. Make a note in your agenda, news will follow soon!

Also good to note: on March 18, 2023 we are organizing our own JPT in Best. For a complete overview of all tournaments in 2023, please refer to Nahouw..

Have a nice day and on to a nice and prosperous 2023!
